The Four Powers – Keys to Potent Leadership
We recognize that all human beings are born with four key powers: Intellect, Passion, Emotion and Spirit. Very few people fully use all four powers. Yet their full development and use is key to the most effective leadership. We call this optimal form of leading Quadrapotent Leadership™. Many of our efforts are focused on helping leaders attain it.

The Quadrapotent Pyramid™
Based on our observations of hundreds of leaders, we have concluded that the four powers exist in a hierarchy as set forth in the below Quadrapotent Pyramid™. Each level in the Pyramid incorporates the level below it. The most successful leaders engage and use all four powers.


First Level Leadership – The Intellect’s Ceiling of Mediocrity
Many leaders function at the bottom level of the pyramid. The characteristics of such leadership are:

  • Exclusive reliance on the intellect to lead.
  • Absence of passion, feeling and inspiration. Style is dry and colorless.
  • This approach virtually guarantees an achievement ceiling of mediocrity.

Second Level of Leadership – The Two Interacting Powers of Passion and Emotion
More capable leaders strive to operate at the middle level of the Quadrapotent Pyramid™. At this level:

  • The leader feels and expresses passion in his or her work.
  • This "passion" is the very energy of life; it brings vitality and excitement.
  • As this passion is brought to the team, the team is energized & mobilized.
Second Level of Leadership – Resolving Emotional Blockages
Functioning at the second level of leadership, however, has its unique challenges. We help leaders master these challenges:
  • Passion can be blocked by negative emotional states such as fear, mistrust, self-doubt and resentment.
  • We use a variety of effective methods to resolve these emotions and thereby unblock the passion.

Third Level of Leadership – Inspiration and True Commitment
It is the rare leader who functions at the top of the Quadrapotent Pyramid™. At this level:
  • The leader "brings spirit in" to the organization, and is literally "in-spiring."
  • "Spirit" is the unifying force that galvanizes teams.
  • Inspired team members feel as part of a greater whole.
  • Inspired team members have deep purpose and meaning.
  • Inspiration generates profound commitment, even in the face of severe business crises.
